Projecting Patterns
Prepare a multi-page pattern for projection
Join and adjust the pages of a print-at-home pattern into one projector-ready layout.
Overview
Print-at-home patterns are divided across several pages.
Sewsy lets you join those pages into one continuous layout for projection. You can adjust the page flow, crop page edges, add blank spaces, remove pages from the working layout, and export the prepared layout to use again later.
Steps
1. Open the pattern
Open an existing projector pattern, or press Projector pattern to choose a new multi-page PDF.
When page-layout editing is available, open Edit layout.
2. Choose the page flow
Choose how the original print-at-home pages should flow.
Use Across when the pages should run horizontally:
1 2 3Use Down when the pages should run vertically:

33. Set pages per row or column
Choose how many pages should appear in each row.
If you chose the down page flow, this controls how many pages appear in each column instead.
Use the pattern's page map or layout template when one is included in the instructions.
4. Adjust the crop settings
Use Horizontal crop and Vertical crop when the page edges need to be trimmed from the joined layout.
Cropping works like cutting off the outside edges of each printed page before joining them.
Not every pattern needs cropping. It depends on how the pattern designer prepared the print-at-home file.
When adjusting crop values, it can help to pinch to zoom in on the page edges.
When you are done, tap the fit-to-screen button in the bottom left to fit the layout back on the screen.
5. Add blanks or remove pages when needed
Tap a page to open its page menu.
From there, you can:
- Insert blank before
- Insert blank after
- Remove page
Removing a page only removes it from the working layout. It does not permanently delete the page from the original PDF.
When you are done with the page menu, tap Deselect or tap the page again.
6. Undo or reset changes
Tap the back arrow in the toolbar at any time to undo your last change.
To start the layout over completely, tap the ••• menu and choose Reset layout.
Reset layout returns the file to its original layout, adds removed pages back, removes blank pages, and clears layout settings.
7. Review the joined pattern
Inspect the lines where the pages meet.
Confirm that the pattern pieces continue smoothly from one page to the next.
8. Use or export the layout
Continue to the projection screen to use the prepared pattern.
You can also tap the ••• menu and choose Export to save the prepared layout as a separate file.
Tips
Keep the pattern instructions or page map open nearby when the designer includes a layout template.
Use page numbers, test squares, registration marks, and matching pattern lines to confirm the layout.
Pinch to zoom in or out while checking page edges and alignment.
A blank position may be necessary when the original print layout intentionally leaves part of a row empty.
Keep the original PDF in case you need to rebuild the layout later.
Troubleshooting
The pattern pages do not line up
Check the page flow, pages per row or column, horizontal crop, and vertical crop. Compare registration marks, test squares, and pattern lines across page boundaries.
A blank space appears in the layout
Some print-at-home patterns intentionally leave positions empty. Insert a blank page where needed so the remaining pages stay in their correct positions.
Part of the pattern is missing
Confirm that no required page was removed from the working layout. Refer to the original pattern's page map or print diagram when available.
If needed, choose Reset layout from the ••• menu to restore the original pages.
I removed a page by mistake
Tap the back arrow in the toolbar to undo the change.
You can also use Reset layout from the ••• menu to restore the original layout.
Edit layout is not available
The feature appears only for compatible multi-page PDF patterns. It may not appear for single-page projector or copy-shop files.
